Job Description: Next Generation Pastor 

Direct Report: Discipleship Pastor 

Oversees: Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry 

Rate: Full Time (40+ hours per week) 

Purpose: To provide visionary leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all ministries serving children and youth (birth through 12th grade) and their families with the goal of introducing them to Jesus Christ and equipping them to follow Him.

Specific Responsibilities: 

- Leadership 

o Provide strategic leadership for next generation ministries aligned with 3VC’s discipleship vision. 

o Develop and implement pathways for spiritual growth and discipleship for the next generation. 

o Oversee and supervise the Children's Ministry Coordinator (grades 5 and under). 

o Identify, recruit, equip, and support volunteers and staff to effectively make disciples of the next generation. 

o Provide spiritual and professional growth development for volunteers and staff in Next Generation ministries. 

o Establish and maintain standards for spiritual, personal, and professional accountability. 

o Preaching opportunities within Next Generation ministries, additional  preaching opportunities TBD. 

- Shepherding 

o Lead and coordinate youth ministry for students in grades 6–12. 

o Cultivate meaningful pastoral relationships with students, families, volunteers, and staff. 

o Provide pastoral care and counseling to students and families, referring to additional resources when appropriate.

o Develop parent partnerships, providing support and resources for spiritual formation at home. 

o Facilitate youth involvement in worship, mission, outreach, and service. 

o Utilize age-appropriate environments and programs including retreats, camps, and mission trips that support faith development. 

o Develop student leadership pathways and support transitions into adult discipleship and church membership. 

- Administrative/Logistical 

o Actively communicate plans, events, and initiatives with the church via bulletin/website/verbal announcements. 

o Partner with other church ministries to foster intergenerational ministry where appropriate. 

o Develop and manage the budget for Next Generation ministries. 

o Select, implement, and evaluate curriculum for Next Generation ministries. 

o Meet monthly with the Discipleship Pastor for a spiritual, personal, and professional check-in. 

o Manage volunteer onboarding, including interviewing, background clearances, scheduling, and communication. 

o Manage communication with parents and families. 

o Maintain accurate contact and attendance data. 

- Personal & Professional Expectations 

o Maintain levels of excellence in all areas of spiritual growth and professional ministry. 

o Pursue opportunities to network with a cohort of other children’s/youth ministry leaders for support and growth. 

o Stay informed on best practices and resources related to children and youth spiritual formation. 

o Maintain active church membership and attendance at 3VC. 

o Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, empathy, emotional intelligence.

 - Education and Experience 

o Preference for a Master’s Degree in an area of Christian focus, but not required. 

o Two or more years hands-on experience ministering to teenagers. 

o Demonstrated leadership experience in children’s and/or youth ministry, including team development and volunteer leadership.
